Cosmetic Surgery Statistics are made by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, ASAPS, which is an organization of board- certified plastic surgeons specialized in cosmetic plastic surgery. ASAPS is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
In 1997 the total number of cosmetics procedures performed in the United States were nearly of 972, 996 surgical and non-surgical procedures. In comparison, in 2001 there were 1, 609, 608 million surgical and non-surgical procedures and in 2002 there were 1, 620, 736 million. There was a 1% increase in the surgical procedures and a 23% decrease in the non-surgical procedures from 2001 to 2002. In the Cosmetic Surgery Statistics we find a top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2002 : liposuction, the breast augmentation, the eyelid surgery, the rhinoplasty and the breast reduction. Meanwhile, the top 5 non-surgical cosmetic procedures made were the botox injections, the microdermabrasion, the collagen injections, the laser hair removal and the chemical peel. In the same year 88% of the total cosmetic procedures were made by females while males had 800,000 cosmetic procedures, meaning a 12% of the total performed.

In a Cosmetic Surgery Statistics, since 1997 there has been a 457 per cent increase of cosmetic procedures from which surgical procedures increased by 114 per cent and non-surgical procedures increased by 754 per cent. People with ages between 35 and 50 have had the most procedures, meaning 5,4 millions, a 46 percentage of the total. Persons aged between 19 and 34 had 21 per cent of the procedures while the persons with ages between 51 and 64 had 25 percentage of the total cosmetic surgeries. Teenagers with the age of 18 and under had less than 2 percent of the total. Cosmetic Surgery Statistics also point out that these surgeries were mostly made in hospitals and free-standing surgical centres.
In conclusion, Cosmetic Surgery Statistics point out that there has been a massive increase of the surgical and non-surgical procedures. This fact has one big conclusion, that both women and men have become more preoccupied with the way they look and have put the appearance on the top of their list priorities.
