This problem might be congenital but it might also appear due to several pregnancies or traumatic delivery and labor. The procedure called labia reduction is performed to reduce the size of the labia minora.

In our days due to the medical developments there are several vaginal plastic surgeries available to take care of the problem. The standard procedure that is used by most surgeons is to remove the leading edge of the labia and so it will be shorter and smaller. After this the surgeon repairs the edge. This is the easiest procedure and it can be performed in the office. There is another procedure that is gaining more and more popularity called the ‘alter labia contouring’ or ‘the new labiaplasty’ that involves reducing the excess labia by removing a pie shaped piece from it and closing the labia, this way making it smaller. In this case the patient will remain with a scar across the labia instead of a scar along the edge of it.
