Sadly I have to speak about him in the past tense since he passed away on January 6, 2004 because of a car accident after New Year’s Eve. He was a shining star of the medical field and you should know about him that he was born in Newark on November 14, 1923. He attended Cornell University and the Columbia University College.
It is good to know about him that he has served in the Second World War and naturally he was working in the medical field in Staten Island. He saw a lot of wounded people being brought by ships and this is why the plastic surgery field raised his interest and he dedicated the rest of his life to finding new methods and techniques of treating wounds.
While he was still learning in school he managed to meet some of the most well known experts of that time and they guided him to learn about certain features of the science that later served him very well. This way he was one of the few surgeons who were present at the first world conference regarding tissue transplantation. The next year he got appointed as chief editor of the first medical journal that handled solely tissue transplantation.
During his life he learnt a lot and he took part at numerous conferences. He didn’t just accumulate knowledge, but he was also willing to share all the things that he has learned with the other surgeons and so he held numerous lectures during his life.
There would be a lot of things to say about him but I don’t really think that worlds can express the value that we have lost the day when he passed away. He had a lot more to share with the world, but the only thing that could make us a bit more cheerful is that he lived the life that he wanted and that he did everything he could to make the medical field advance.
I don’t think that many of you have hear about him and now you might be thinking about how many experts are out there that we don’t know about and about whom we will never hear because their activity doesn’t belong to our interests.
