Things to know about swollen stomach after surgery

You might know that in our days there are numerous procedures performed for several reasons. There are some that are done for health reasons but there are also many that are performed because the patient feels like he or she would like to make the looks better and surgery is a very effective way to do this.

There are a lot of people who aren’t satisfied with the look of their abdomen and this is why they agree to have different kinds of surgeries like liposuction or abdominoplasty (also known as tummy tuck). In this article I am going to tell you about one side effect that the surgery might have during the recovery period.

You should know that tummy tuck is a surgical procedure and so it is very likely that you will experience swollen stomach after surgery. In some cases the swelling isn’t taken seriously and so it might last for a longer period of time. In order to reduce the swellings there are some things you should know.

One of the things that you should keep in mind is to drink t least 8 glasses of water every day. The glasses should be at least 8 ounces. Some people think that drinking that amount of water will cause you to have a bleated stomach, but that is wrong. You should know that using painkillers leads to constipation and this might make you experience a feeling of tightness of the muscles. The water that you drink will ease the bowel movements and it will also help to reduce the swelling after the procedure.

There are some things that you should know about your diet. You should make sure that you consume less salt because the sodium that can be found in salt will retain water and you will feel bloated. You should avoid junk food and fast food especially if it is processed and packaged. You should eat only fresh food.

Another thing that you should know is to stay away from coffee. Caffeine acts somewhat like sodium and it retains water this is why it isn’t good in case of swollen stomach after surgery. Just like the women who have given birth make good use of massage to treat the pain, you might also find it useful but first you should ask your doctor about it. If you go to a massage session, be sure that you don’t lie on your stomach and ask the therapist to stay away from the abdominal area and the stitches. The massage will make the blood flow better and this will prevent the retention of water as well as it helps to avoid blood clots and this way reducing the swelling after the abdominal surgery.

You might see that there are various ways to get rid of the swelling but I think it is very important to ask the surgeon about it and see what recommendations he has because most probably he knows best and he has encountered situations like yours.
